Thabang Monare to be replaced on Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates have moved quickly to snap up a midfielder as their first signing of the next season, after releasing Thabang Monare!

Orlando Pirates are believed to have snapped up their first signing ahead of next season, according to reports!

It was largely believed that the permanent signing of SuperSport United midfield Thalente Mbatha would be Pirates’ first.

PIRATES LOOKING TO BOLSTER MIDFIELD
The deal taking Mbatha to Pirates is believed to be a mere formality, with both parties and SuperSport in agreement. The player’s agent, Mike Makaab has often reiterated that all parties have an agreement in principal, with a clause present. While the fans and those involved wait for that clause to be signed off, the Buccaneers have moved quickly for another SuperSport United midfielder.

According to SABC Sport, Pirates have clinched the signing of SuperSport midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja.

“SABC Sport can reveal that Orlando Pirates have swooped in on midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja, who joins the Soweto giants on a free transfer. Rasebotja was promoted from the SuperSport United academy at the start of the 2020/21 season, under then coach Kaitano Tembo, and payed a bit-part role at the Tshwane side. However, with the 23-year-old due to become a free agent at the end of this month, Pirates have moved swiftly to rope him in to bolster coach Jose Riveiro’s squad.” Wrote the publication.

RASEBOTJA SIGNS FOR PIRATES
This is a crucial bit of business for Pirates, who seem intent on reinforcing their midfield department. Last week, they included veteran midfielder Thabang Monare in a list of six players who they had decided to release. Mbatha was thought to be a ready made replacement at the club. But Riveiro is clearly not intent with just the one. With Rasebotja coming in, it remains to be seen if there will be anymore midfield casualties.

The likes of Sandile Mthethwa and Siphelo Baloni were already suffering from a lack of game time last season. The arrival of both Mbatha and Rasebotja could well see the duo leave Pirates next season.
