How to manage club money boss from AmaZulu

DStv Premiership clubs have struggled with their financial books, but AmaZulu has not been among them. The boss of the club Sandile Zungu has explained how.

NEAR AMAZUL MONEY EYE
Speaking after the financial problems of Moroka Swallows and TS Galaxy last season, AmaZulu chairman Zungu has said Usuthu’s finances are fine – thanks to his close eye.

“As the president of the club I want anything that may have financial implications for Usuthu to be passed before me,” Zungu said as quoted by SABC Sport.

“I am not doing it because I want to control people a little, but because the success or failure of Usuthu depends on how we handle our finances,” the AmaZulu boss added.

“If you look at clubs like Swallows that found themselves with financial challenges in the middle of the season, it’s not only Swallows but I don’t want to talk about others,” the AmaZulu owner continued.

“Usually the problems they face are due to financial difficulties, then it embarrasses the club owners. But you also have to ask yourself, if they are embarrassed by this, where were they when the money was being misused?

“Therefore, as the president of Usuthu, I want everyone in the club to be responsible for our finances. I need to know everything from players’ salaries, how much we sign players for, how much other clubs pay to buy our players, etc.,” Zungu concluded.

In recent related news, the club let go of Augustine Kwem, Veluyeke Zulu, and George Maluleka.

“Yes, I can confirm they will leave the club because their contracts have expired,” Zungu said.

“The coach and his staff are discussing the way forward and feel they have other plans – so this means Veluyeke Zulu, George Maluleka, and Augustine Kwem will not be staying with us,” he concluded.

NJABULO NGCOBO
Remaining with AmaZulu, the Durban giants are linked with Kaizer Chiefs defender, Njabulo Ngcobo. The 30-year-old player’s contract with Amakhosi expires on June 30.

According to his agent, the former Uthongathi and Moroka Swallows player has started talking to AmaZulu, among other clubs.

“Kaizer Chiefs are a professional club, they are communicating about their interest. Unfortunately, they have not said anything about Njabulo Ngcobo,” the agent, Sboniso Ngubane told SABC Sport. “We are in talks with different clubs in the DStv Premiership, including AmaZulu FC,” he confirmed.

If Ngcobo were to sign AmaZulu, he would be going back to where he started. The player “Mapholoba” enjoyed his formative years in Usuthu before moving to Richards Bay and Uthongathi.
